Hippocratic health

I’m currently working on some gift bags for a health care agency, while I’m also in the midst of completing my annual health assessment for insurance purposes. The former led me to some quotes attributed to the Greek physician Hippocrates, who is often referred to as the “father of medicine.” While the time period in which he lived is cited as c. 460 – c. 370 BCE, some of the quotes I came upon seemed as suitable today as they evidently were during his lifetime. Here is a sampling of what I found on Goodreads.

“If we could give every individual the right amount of nourishment and exercise, not too little and not too much, we would have found the safest way to health.”

“Walking is man's best medicine.”

“Let food be thy medicine.”

Eat well and exercise- simple health advice that has stood the test of time.

    1. Elizabeth-

I told my husband about your post last night, because both of us have had joint surgeries and physical therapy in recent years—my husband had two knee replacements and a hip replacement within a space of three years. Experiences like those change you at some level. I will say, your barber husband sounds wonderful. When I was caring for my husband, I had visions of becoming Misery’s Annie Wilkes. Thank goodness I didn’t (or at least I think I didn’t). I hope you and your husband enjoy your new lease on life.

      Fondly- l
