Besides gardening, my mother possessed
a great fondness for vintage items and costume jewelry. For many years, we
prowled through antique shops, fascinated by their array of heirloom items.
My interest became tempered
over the years, when I began to realize “how much” could become “too much”;
but I still find myself drawn to small vintage items on occasion. This ribbon scrap
and fabric label are two of my favorite finds. I fashioned them into a small
gift pouch and used one of my mother’s costume rings for the closure—yet another
nod to times once shared and the impending holiday season.
